2022 GMC Sierra

For 2022, three years after the start of the current generation, the GMC Sierra is getting significant improvements across the board. Let’s take a look at some of the improvements made to the Sierra.

Two new versions

Not one, but two versions have been added to the family for the new year.

First, we have the Sierra Denali Ultimate. The goal here is to offer more luxury than ever, all in a richer environment than ever. Inside this version, you’ll enjoy the finest materials such as Ultrasuede, high-quality leather and wood trim, among others. The front seats will even offer massage functionality. The dashboard design is distinct, too. The Denali Ultimate version is going to tug at your heartstrings.

Secondly, we’ll be able to enjoy the AT4X livery. Assembled from the AT4 version, it will offer more in terms of off-road skills, like the ZR2 version that will also be released with the Silverado at Chevrolet. On the menu: a suspension with more travel, Multimatic shocks that do an extraordinary job of adapting to the type of terrain they’re on, driving modes for off-roading, and e-locking technology for locking the differentials.

Super Cruise

In addition to all the luxury it will offer, the Denali Ultimate variant will come standard with the Super Cruise semi-autonomous system that was first introduced by Cadillac. This system can serve its owner on some 320,000 km of highways in Canada and the United States. Even better, the new generation of the system offers autonomous passing. It can even be used with a load attached to the rear. These last two functions cannot be used at the same time, however.

Revised powertrains

The GMC Sierra will still be served by the same engines, but two of them are more competent.

First of all, the 2.7-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine benefits from several transformations, so we’re talking about a new block. In the process, its torque jumps from 348 to 420 lb-ft of torque, so smoother performance is expected, with or without a trailer behind.

The diesel engine (3.0-litre Duramax turbocharged 6-cylinder) is now grafted onto versions that enjoy chassis-level improvements. These allow the addition of the Max towing package. The result? Maximum towing capacity increases by 4,000 pounds to 13,200. Impressive.
